#7 Hackathon Guest Speakers: Stefano Caneva and Derek V. Giroulle

Wikimedia_Belgium_logo.pngStefano Caneva and Derek V. Giroulle will join us on the 25th to talk about GLAMwiki and the current projects of Wikimedia Belgium, Wiki Loves Monuments and Wiki Loves Art.

Sans titre 1Stefano Caneva currently lives between Belgium (Antwerp) and Italy (Padova), where he is Marie Curie Research Fellow in History and Digital Humanities at the University of Padova (IT). His project aims to develop free-licensed material and an OpenStreetMap-based geo-blog for research and education, which will become part of the Europeana EAGLE Project.

He is co-founder and vice-president of the Italian cultural NGO weLand (2012), for which he is responsible for the projects related to CH and educational institutions, and a member of Wikimedia Belgium, Wikimedia Italia and the Europeana Network.

In 2014 he ran a local Wikipedia/Wikivoyage project in Italian schools. In 2015 he launched and ran the regional section of Wiki Loves Monuments Italia in Piemonte, NW Italy (3rd national prize; 2nd international prize). In 2015 he also became a co-opted board member of WMBE and a member of the Europeana task forces “Europeana for Education” and “Connecting networks for collaborating and information sharing”.

In 2016 he is project manager for WLPiemonte2016 and WLM Belgium and a collaborator of various Italian institutions working in the field of Open Data for culture and tourism.

derek1Derek V. Giroulle is co-founder and treasurer of Wikimedia Belgium, and lives in Antwerp. Professionally he’s a patient advocate for children and young survivors of brain tumours and cancer.

Wikipedia contributor since 2005, he’s a notorious athwart-lier who gets regularly into conflict with the auto-proclaimed Wikipedia sheriffs who try to enforce their personal law onto the community-driven project.

Within Wikimedia Belgium he oversees GLAM project and attempts to get the Wikipedia for education (Wikiducation) projet pilots started as Wikiducation project manager.
